Dear Friends and Neighbors –
I hope everyone had a wonderful Winter. I trust we all survived the pandemic and most of us have gotten vaccinated. The worst seems to be over and things feel like they are opening up. OMP and our wonderful social committee led by our inimitable MLK is planning a relatively full set of social activities obviously subject to change as conditions on the ground change.
I want to thank all who work to keep OMP a special place including the Board and all the volunteers. If anyone wants to get more involved please contact any Board member or Committee Head or me. (List of Board Members and Committees on the website). Our website is www.OldMillPoint.org. Password for Directory is OMP (all upper case).
UPDATES
1. Roads – Last year, the road committee consisting of Carl and Angelo reported that many of our drains required the leaching fields to be replaced. Our roads are also deteriorating and in need of major repairs or replacement. We hired a consultant- James O’reilly and Associates- to advise us.
The consulting firm has recommended a course of action and once the Board analyzes the proposal in full, we will be communicating with you and post relevant reports and analysis on our web site. We expect to hear a full update at our annual meeting on Friday 7/16.
2. Boats – All boats on the racks need to have a white, numbered OMP sticker. If you need a sticker, please ask Rich Valarioti. If your car is at the dock area it needs to have a gold OMP sticker. If you don’t want to place it on your car, you can just leave it on the dash, or put it on the back of the visor and just put it down when needed. If you need a gold OMP car sticker, please ask Rich Valarioti. Children on the docks should be supervised. Please be careful.
3. Website – We will continue to provide and update neighborhood directories and site plans but only on our website. Carol spends too much time and expense preparing the little booklets. From now on we will try to post more and more information on our website to increase usage. I encourage everyone to post pictures on the site. If anyone wants to get involved in helping our website more user friendly and interactive, please advise. We can certainly use all the help we can get. John Donovan is doing a great job in this regard, but it’s unfair for him to carry the full weight on his shoulders.
4. Beach Cleaning Schedule – John Connelly working on this year’s beach cleaning schedule. When completed, he will post on our website. It’s actually a difficult task because he has to consider high and low tides on weekends, and access to seaway beach through Pleasant St. beach. Please thank John for all his hard work when you see him around the neighborhood
5. Security- The Board has decided not to continue our drive by security guards this year. Last year we used the service for a couple of days a week. Hopefully we can self police. The beach stakes were very popular and helpful last year and we plan on continuing that practice this year.
6. Events – We will have a full schedule of events this year. A PARTIAL list of events is as follows:
Opening Adult Cocktail Party, Saturday evening, June 26th, 5:00PM-7:00PM
Fourth of July Parade, Sunday afternoon, 5:00PM
Kids’ Party, Sunday morning, August 1st, 11AM
STAY TUNED FOR THE KID’S CLEAN UP EVENT CREATED AND RUN BY OUR OWN JEN DONOVAN. IT WAS WELL RECEIVED LAST YEAR AND GOOD FOR THE KIDS AND GOOD FOR OMP. PROBABLY OVER MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND.
Thanks to everyone on the Events Committee for planning and coordinating as well as all our other neighbors for implementing these events. OMP is a special place because of YOU.
7. Rentals – For the few of you who rent their homes, reminder that you require a permit from the health department. This is called a Certificate of Occupancy. Also, please advise your renters about OMP rules and regulations (found on our website) so everyone can enjoy OMP grounds and beaches.
8. Finances – Financially we are in good shape. We are trying to rebuild capital. No dues increase are proposed for next year.
9. Proposed Mass Legislation on Beach Rights – Information has been sent to you regarding the proposed beach right changes. Hopefully the legislation won’t pass. If you are interested in reaching out to your legislators please do so. Information regarding this has been POSTED ON OUR WEBSITE.
10. Comings and Goings – We had a particularly busy winter of changes. Our lovely neighbor Anne Sullivan has passed. She will be missed by all who knew her, and remembered with fondness. There are three houses being completed (they look great) and rumor is that at least one other house will be fully rebuilt come next spring. Regarding new neighbors, Matt Smith and Wendy Sulkazi bought the LeBlanc home at 99 Lower County Rd. Matt and Wendy live in Shrewsbury when they are not on Cape. Tim and Kerry Blanchard purchased the Manning home at 16 Pine Lane and are in the process of making some improvements to the property. They have a home in Raynham. James and Tracey Gardella bought the Shields home at 18 Riverway. James and Tracey have a home on John’s Island, SC. We welcome these new families to Old Mill Point. Be sure to introduce yourself to them when you are out in the neighborhood this summer.
11. Wildlife – THE OSPREYS ARE BACK. Guess what house they are happily building their nest on. Also, as I was walking my little white dog, I saw a family of foxes. One rather large mother and at least 6 baby pups. They were eating a squirrel!!!!! I also saw a skunk recently. Just an FYI when walking your dog at night.
Best regards to all and I hope to see all of you throughout the summer.
