2022 Spring Newsletter

Dear Friends and Neighbors-
I hope everyone had a wonderful Winter. OMP and our wonderful social committee led by our inimitable MLK is planning a full set of social activities. Hopefully this will be a fun summer for all of us.
I want to thank all who work to keep OMP a special place including the Board and all the volunteers. If anyone wants to get more involved please contact any Board member or Committee Head or me. (List of Board Members and Committees on the website). Our website is www.OldMillPoint.org. Password for the Directory is OMP (all upper case).
UPDATES1. Drains and Roads-  IMPORTANT UPDATE. Please refer to my OMP Winter Update (addendum to the OMP 2021 Fall Newsletter- Notice of Dues increase) for my last correspondence on this topic. (It should also be on the OMP website). I have updated the Board since then in February and March and I am attaching both updates. In addition we received a quote for the initial phase. The Board will fully discuss this proposal at our Board meeting at the end of this month. Expect to hear a full update and have a neighborhood vote at our annual meeting on Friday, July 15th at 7pm. I don’t believe an additional assessment will be required as we should have sufficient funds in our capital reserves. This is subject to an analysis of our cash needs and approval of the Board on how best to proceed. Please keep this quote confidential and do not email to anyone. If anyone has any questions or comments, please feel free to reach out to me or any other Board member.
2. Boats-  All boats on the racks need to have a white, numbered OMP sticker.  If you need a sticker, please ask Rich Valarioti.  If your car is at the dock area it needs to have a gold OMP sticker.  If you don’t want to place it on your car, you can just leave it on the dash, or put it on the back of the visor and just put it down when needed.  If you need a gold OMP car sticker, please ask Rich Valarioti. Children on the docks should be supervised. Please be careful.

3. Website- We will continue to provide and update neighborhood directories and site plans but only on our website. Carol spends too much time and expense preparing the little booklets. From now on we will try to post more and more information on our website to increase usage. I encourage everyone to post pictures on the site. If anyone wants to get involved in helping our website become more user friendly and interactive, please advise. We can certainly use all the help we can get. John Donovan is doing a great job in this regard, but it’s unfair for him to carry the full load.
4. Beach Cleaning Schedule- John Connelly is working on this year’s beach cleaning schedule. When completed, he will post on our website. It’s actually a difficult task because he has to consider high and low tides on weekends, and access to seaway beach through Pleasant St. beach. Please thank John for all his hard work when you see him around the neighborhood
5. Events-  We will have a full schedule of events this year. A PARTIAL list of events is as follows:

Opening Adult Cocktail Party, Saturday evening, June 25th, 5:00PM-7:00PM. Event hosted by the Vacca’s. Thank you Ralph and Fiona!

Fourth of July Parade, Monday afternoon,  5:00PM; Sandcastle Contest- Time TBD

Kids’ Party, Sunday morning, August 6th,  11AM

OMP year end party, TBD
STAY TUNED FOR THE KID’S CLEAN UP EVENT CREATED AND RUN BY OUR OWN JEN DONOVAN. IT WAS WELL RECEIVED LAST YEAR AND GOOD FOR THE KIDS AND GOOD FOR OMP. PROBABLY OVER MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND. ALSO, BETTY SUDARSKY WILL ONCE AGAIN LEAD THE BOOK CLUB THIS SUMMER. THANK YOU BETTY! Thanks to everyone on the Events Committee for planning and coordinating as well as all our other neighbors for implementing these events. OMP is a special place because of YOU.

6. Rentals- For the few of you who rent their homes, reminder that you require a permit from the health department. This is called a Certificate of Occupancy. Also, please advise your renters about OMP rules and regulations (found on our website) so everyone can enjoy OMP grounds and beaches.
7. Comings and Goings:-Our dear friend and neighbor John Healy passed away during the winter. I will miss dearly my early morning walks with him,  his sense of humor and sage advice.  -The Monahan’s have demolished their old home at 8 Seaview Road and are building a new home. I’m sure it will be a beautiful home. -Philip and Susie Robins purchased Attardo’s home on 47 Strandway. We look forward to greeting the Robins’ and we will miss the Attardo’s and we wish them well. Be sure to introduce yourself to our new neighbors when you are out and about in the neighborhood.
8. Wildlife- ARE THERE OSPREYS ON OUR NEW OSPREY STAND? Please advise if there are any sightings. Also, who wants to join the environmental/sustainability committee?
Best regards to all and I hope to see all of you throughout the summer.
