Fall Newsletter – 2020

Dear Friends and Neighbors –

I hope everyone had a wonderful Summer at Old Mill Point. OMP is really a special place. Many of you quarantined together the entire summer and bonded. It  feels like our neighborhood is an extended family community. We all care for one another.

I want to thank all who work to keep OMP a special place including the Board and all the volunteers. If anyone wants to get more involved in the neighborhood, please contact any Board member or Committee Head or me. (List of Board Members and Committees on the website).

UPDATES

1. Roads-  At July’s annual meeting, the road committee consisting of Carl and Angelo reported that many of our drains need the leaching fields replaced. Our roads are also deteriorating and in need of major repairs or replacement. We agreed to hire a consultant- James O’reilly and Associates- to advise us.

The consulting firm has recommended a course of action and once the Board analyzes the proposal in full, we will be communicating with all of you and post relevant reports and analysis on our web site.

2. Boats- Reminder that all boats must be out of the water by Columbus Day.

3. Website- We will continue to provide and update neighborhood directories but only on our website. Carol spends too much time preparing the little booklets. From now on we will try to post more and more information on our website to increase usage. Website is oldmillpoint.org. Password for the directory is OMP.  I encourage everyone to send pictures for the directory to webmaster@oldmillpoint.org.  Facebook page is  https://www.facebook.com/groups/668176379961091  If anyone wants to get involved in helping our website be more user friendly and interactive, please advise. We can certainly use all the help we can get.

4. Corona virus- Please continue to use safe practices and social distancing protocols we enter the fall and winter season. A number of families are planning extended stays at OMP. We have been fortunate that no corona virus cases have been reported at OMP.

5. Security- The Board has decided not to continue our security guards next year. Hopefully we can self police. The beach stakes were very popular and helpful and we plan on continuing that practice next year.

6. Events- Unfortunately we cancelled most of our events this past summer. Hopefully we will have a full schedule of events next year. The events we did have, however, were very successful. The “kids clean up” created by Jen Donovan was well received as well as the surprise arrival of the free iice cream truck. (thanks Julie Norton for the idea). The fourth of July parade is always fun (thanks, Carol Clancy). And thanks everyone on the Events Committee for planning and coordinating led by our very own and special MLK.

7. Rentals- For the few of you who rent their homes, reminder that you require a permit from the heath department. This is called a Certificate of Occupancy.

Also, please advise your renters about OMP rules and regulations (found on our website) so everyone can enjoy OMP grounds and beaches.

8. Finances- Financially we are in good shape. We are trying to rebuild our capital. No dues increase are proposed for next year.

Best regards to all and I hope to see many of you throughout the Fall and Winter and all of you in the Spring.
